Volkswagen Introduces R-Line for the All-New Golf

Volkswagen has rolled out three new R-Line packages for the Golf, comprising exterior and interior kits along with a Sport Pack. Any one of them can be had on the Comfortline or Highline trims, but for different prices. The exterior add-ons include logos, new front and rear bumpers and a rear spoiler, new side sills and a black diffuser. It runs 995 euros ($1,297 US) on the Highline, 1,180 euros ($1,538 US) on the Comfortline.

The interior package includes items like aluminum-look instrument and door panels, new door sills, a black headliner, stainless steel pedal caps and sports seats. It goes for 640 euros on the Highline trim or 945 euros ($1,231 US) on Comfortline. You can add Vienna leather to that, upgrading from cloth, for either 1,755 ($2,287 US) euros on the Highline or 2,115 euros ($2,756 US) on the Comfortline.

Finally, the Sport package gets a new suspension and revised steering, plus tinted windows. It's the most economical of the lot, needing just 430 euros ($560 US) for both Comfortline and Highline.

Motorist Monday: Changing a Flat

Motorist Monday: Flat tires happen; be prepared with this infographic for changing out your tires. 'Like' this if you learned something new!

Excellent review on Google+ Local!

It always makes Mondays so much easier hearing from pleased customers:

"Had a very solid, no-hassle experience buying a used car at Sheehy VW Springfield. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and the sales staff and financing department worked hard to make the numbers fit my budget. Delvin and Herbie especially were very personable and took the time to make sure everything worked out. Would highly recommend."

Volkswagen Announces the all-new Passat Wolfsburg Edition

Volkswagen has just announced a new Passat Wolfsburg Edition, which slots between the base S and mid-grade SE trims in terms of content and price. The automaker has not released any official photos of the car as of this writing (aside from the badge shot you see here, of course), but the Wolfsburg Passat will be visually set apart from the rest by a unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels.

The big host of upgrades for the Wolfsburg Edition are found inside, where buyers will enjoy standard amenities like leatherette seats (with bun-warmers on the front chairs), a power driver's seat, satellite radio and a media interface with iPod connectivity. Of course, this comes on top of the already standard Passat features like Bluetooth and auto on/off headlamps. The Wolfsburg Passat will only be available with the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Look for the 2013 Wolfsburg Edition Passat to hit dealerships in the very near future, priced from $23,495, *not including $795 for destination.

First Look: 2013 VW Golf R

The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.

Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.

VW Sells 1.43 Million Vehicles in First Three Months of 2013

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 1.43 (January – March 2012: 1.36; +5.2 percent) million vehicles in the first three months of the year. There was, however, a slight decline in deliveries for the month of March, with the brand handing over 532,400 (March 2012: 536,700; -0.8 percent) vehicles to customers. “There were mixed developments on markets worldwide for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. While there was further growth in Asia and North America in particular, deliveries declined in other regions such as Western Europe and South America. As expected, markets are becoming more difficult, and in some cases decidedly more challenging”, Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 396,300 (441,800; -10.3 percent) vehicles on the overall European market in the first quarter, of which 208,800 (232,600; -10.2 percent) were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). There was also a downward trend in the home market of Germany, where customers took possession of 126,500 (149,000; -15.1 percent) new vehicles. In contrast, Volkswagen Passenger Cars recorded slight growth in Central and Eastern Europe in the period to March, with deliveries running at 61,000 (60,200; +1.4 percent) units. The company handed over 35,300 (35,800; -1.4 percent) vehicles to customers in Russia.
In the Asia-Pacific region the brand grew deliveries by 20.9 percent in the period to March, handing over 653,500 (540,600) units. In China (incl. Hong Kong), 598,100 (483,400; +23.7 percent) vehicles were delivered during the same period. In India, on the other hand, deliveries fell to 16,600 (20,400; -18.5 percent) units. In the North America region, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew deliveries by 7.3 percent to 145,700 (135,700) units, of which 98,200 (94,400; +4.0 percent) models were handed over to customers in the United States. However, in the South America region there was a 7.3 percent drop in deliveries to 176,600 (190,500) units, of which 131,200 (138,600; -5.3 percent) vehicles were handed over to customers in Brazil.

Volkswagen Golf named 2013 Word Car of the Year!

The second day of the New York Auto Show festivities have just kicked with the annual World Car of the Year awards, and we've just learned that the top honors for 2013 go to the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf. The win marks the second in a row for Volkswagen, which also collected the hardware in 2012 for its Up! supermini.

The World Car awards are handed out by a panelist of 66 auto journalists from around the world, including Autoblog European Editor, Matt Davis. Runners-up for the big award included the Audi A3, Land Rover Range Rover, Mazda6, Mazda CX-5, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Peugeot 208, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86 and Volvo V40.

Also announced this morning is the winner of the 2013 World Performance Car award. In this category, the Porsche Boxster and Cayman has been picked by the jury over a number of other contenders, including the Aston Martin Vanquish, Audi RS5, BMW M6, BMW M135i, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, Renault Clio Sport and the Toyobaru triplets.

Moving to more eco-friendly matters, the World Green Car award has been handed to the – surprise, surprise – Tesla Model S. The all-electric sedan topped the Renault Zoe, Smart ForTwo Electric Drive, Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid Diesel.

Lastly, the annual World Car Design laurels have been awarded to the impossibly pretty Jaguar F-Type, besting other attractive finalists including the Aston Martin Vanquish, Renault Clio, Land Rover Range Rover, Mazda6 and Volkswagen Golf.
